MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 14 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (5-2-0, 2-0-0) scored four times in the third period to get past UW-Stout (3-2-1, 1-1-0) in the first road conference game of the season, 7-6.
The Blue Devils jumped ahead, 2-0, with goals at 5:47 and 10:24 of the first period. Just 14 seconds later,
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) scored his first of the night.
Quinton Hill (Coquitlam, B.C.) and
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) added assists as UWSP trailed, 2-1, after one.
The teams alternated goals in the second period, each scoring twice. UWSP got a goal from
Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) at the 12:18 mark to get within 3-2.
Owen Dean (Calgary, Alberta) picked up his first collegiate point with an assist.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) notched his first assist of the night as well.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) again got UWSP within a goal at 4-3 with the Pointers' second power-play goal of the period at 14:36.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) and Sciarrino got helpers on the goal.
Finstrom tied the game at 2:59 of the third period with another power-play goal. Andersson recorded his second point of the night with an assist.
After Stout took a 5-4 lead,
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont.) tied the game again at 13:32 of the third. Sciarrino and Finstrom each got assists and each their third point of the night.
Less than a minute later, Poulias put the Pointers in front for the first time with an unassisted goal at 14:23. In the closing minutes,
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) scored an empty-net shorthanded goal for a 7-5 lead at 18:49.
Stout got a power-play goal with 34 seconds left, but UWSP held on for the win late.
Rayn Maguire made six saves in 16:00 minute of action in the third period to earn his first collegiate win.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 23 saves. UW-Stout goaltender Dawson Green had 28 saves.
The Pointers return home to face Northland on Saturday (Nov. 18). Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
