STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball (2-0) had three players in double figures and never trailed in a 65-52 win over Concordia (Minn.) (1-2) to close out the UWSP Tip-Off Tournament.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) had a game-high 18 points to lead the Pointers for the second-straight game.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) added 13 and
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) had 10 points. Krueger and Gawlitta were named to the all-tournament team.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) led all players with 10 rebounds.
Krueger and Nies combined for UWSP's first eight points as the Pointers jumped ahead 8-3.
Ava Loftus (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) hit a three, the only one of the game for the Pointers, and UWSP led 19-13 after one.
Gawlitta, Nies and Krueger had four points each as the Pointers began the second with a 14-0 run to push the advantage to 33-13.
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) added four points and the halftime lead was 38-17.
Nies had a pair of buckets in the third.
Rachel Hagen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) had a layup midway through the period as UWSP took a 50-31 advantage to the fourth.
Krueger had four points early in the fourth as UWSP maintained a double-digit lead. A late rally got the Cobbers within eight in the final minute, but the Pointers held off the late charge.
The Pointers will now hit the road for four-straight beginning on Saturday (Nov. 18) with a 3:00 p.m. tipoff at St. Scholastica.
