STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 5 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (1-0-0) scored an early power-play goal and never trailed en route to a 4-2 opening night win over St. Norbert (1-2-0).
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) scored the first goal of the season, a power-play goal, at 7:59 of the first period.
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) got his first assist of the night on the play.
At 14:53 of the first,
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) gave the Pointers a 2-0 lead. Heneghan and
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) added helpers for the Pointers.
SNC got on the board at the 8:08 mark of the second period.
The Pointers pushed the lead back to two goals at 10:43 of the second period.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont.) netted the Pointers' second power-play goal of the game.
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) and
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) picked up assists on the eventual game-winner.
Late in the second, the Green Knights again made it a one-goal game.
The lead remained one goal until the final minute of play. Hill tapped in a breakaway empty-netter with just 10.0 seconds left to secure the win.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) caused the turnover at center ice to pick up an assist.

Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) earned the victory with 27 saves. SNC goaltender Johnny Roberts had 31 saves.
The Pointers travel to Minnesota for a pair of weekend non-conference games beginning Friday (Nov. 3) at 7:00 p.m. at Gustavus Adolphus.
