Pointers Battle to Four Super-Breakers in Pair of Home Finale League Matches

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team battled two league opponents in the final home matches of the fall season on Sunday. UWSP fell to UW-La Crosse, 8-1, before dropping a 9-0 decision to UW-Eau Claire.
 
The Pointers played four super-breakers in singles action on the day. Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) at No. 5 singles came out victorious in her super-breaker against UWL. She won the first set, 6-3, but fell short in the second, 6-4. In the super-breaker, she won by a 10-3 final.
 
Quinlyn Mack (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) also played a super-breaker against the Eagles. She dropped the opening set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (2), at No. 2 singles. Mack rallied to take the second set, 6-4, and came up short in the super-breaker, 10-4.
 
Against UWEC, Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) at No. 3 singles played a marathon super-breaker. She won the opening set by a 6-0 final. In the second set, she dropped a 6-4 decision. Then in the super-breaker, Scharf battled to a 15-13 final falling just short.
 
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) also played a super breaker at No. 1 singles against the Blugolds. After dropping the first set, 6-0, she rallied to take the second, 6-1. But in the super-breaker, she fell, 10-3.
 
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) battled to a 7-5, 6-1 defeat at No. 4 singles against UWL. With partner Mack, they came close at No. 2 doubles versus UWL, 8-6.
 
The Pointers travel to UW-Oshkosh on Friday (Oct. 13) for a 3:30 p.m. match.
