APPELTON, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team fell to UW-Oshkosh in league play on Friday by a 6-3 final, but UWSP was as close as two super-breakers and doubles tiebreak from pulling out the win.
Tristin Jantz (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) got UWSP on the board with an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. At No. 3 doubles,
Brooklynn Steier (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) and
Abigail Ashley (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) came up short in a tiebreak, falling 8-7 (4).
Jantz won her No. 1 singles match by a 6-2, 6-3 score.
Quinlyn Mack (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) was victorious at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, Scharf battled back from a first-set defeat to take the second set, 7-5. Then in the super-breaker, she dropped an extended 12-10 final.
Riley Brower (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) also played a super-breaker at No. 6 singles. She won the opening set, 6-2. Brower fell in the second, 6-4, before a 10-6 defeat in the super-breaker.
Steier battled at No. 5 singles, falling by a 6-4, 6-4 score.
The Pointers travel to UW-River Falls on Sunday (Oct. 15) for the final regular season match of the fall. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m.
