STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (4-7-1, 2-1-0) extended its shutout streak at the UWSP Turf Facility to 270 minutes with a 1-0 blanking of visiting UW-River Falls (5-3-3, 0-1-1) in league play on Saturday.
Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) made 12 saves for her second-straight shutout at home. The clean sheet was Nigbur's third of the season.
The teams played to a scoreless first half with Nigbur making five saves in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, UWSP brushed aside a fervent attack by the Falcons and
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) put the Pointers ahead against the run of play. In the 67th minute, Dunn dropped the ball off for
Heather Iverson (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) and got a return feed near the top of the box. She drilled a shot over the UWRF goalkeeper for the eventual game-winner. It was Dunn's team-leading-tying fourth goal of the season.
Following the goal, the Pointers' defense held strong to complete the shutout win.
UWRF goalkeeper Grace Zellmer made four saves, all on shots from
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area).
The Pointers remain at home on Tuesday (Oct. 10) with a 4:00 p.m. match against Carthage.
