Dunn’s Second-Half Brace Lifts Pointers to Fifth-Straight Home Victory

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (5-7-1) earned its fifth-consecutive home win with a 2-1 victory over Carthage (2-5-5) on Tuesday.

Junior Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) scored both goals in the second half to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit. Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) assisted on both goals, her second two-assist match of the season.

The Firebirds opened the scoring in the 29th minute off a corner kick and UWSP trailed at the break.

In the 58th minute, Dunn pulled one back. Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) and Culli combined to possess the ball near the end line. Culli served the ball to back post where Dunn tapped it home.

Dunn put UWSP ahead, for good, in the 70th minute. Savannah Reed (Waukegan, Ill./St. Joseph Catholic Academy) gathered a turnover about 40 yards from goal. She sent Culli out wide. Culli whipped a pass into the box and Dunn headed it past the goalkeeper to the back post.

UWSP goalkeeper Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) made three of her seven saves after the go-ahead goal. The win improves Nigbur's record to 3-3-1 on the season.

The Pointers will now head on the road for a conference match at UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Oct. 14) beginning at 5:00 p.m.
