Kobe Hauls in Career-High Nine Catches for Pointers

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-4, 0-2) was unable to spoil UW-Platteville's homecoming as the host Pioneers (3-2, 1-1) defeated UWSP 51-10 on Saturday.
 
Jeremy Kobe (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) was the highlight of UWSP's offense hauling in a career-high nine receptions in the game. His nine catches totaled 83 yards and he caught UWSP's lone touchdown.
 
Quarterback Jacob Leair (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) completed 24 passes for 184 yards on the day.
 
Defensively, Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the Pointers with seven tackles. Chase Sperl (Abbotsford, Wis./Abbotsford) had 1.5 tackles for loss and Brandon Shoen (Green Bay, Wis./Sheboygan North) had an interception.
 
The Pioneers scored on their opening drive after an interception on the second play of the game. It took UWP 10 plays to go 77 yards for the score.
 
UWSP's defense held the Pioneers to a field goal on the next drive. On the final drive of the first quarter, the Pointers began to move the ball. Leair completed nine passes on the drive as UWSP got the UWP five-yard line as the quarter expired. Aleks Sauer-Milli (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) converted a 22-yard field goal on the first play of the second quarter to get UWSP on the board.
 
Platteville scored a touchdown and a field goal on the next two drives by the hosts as UWSP faced a 20-3 deficit.
 
Leair hit Kobe for 26 yards to begin the Pointers drive with 10:52 remaining before halftime. Then on fourth down, Leair and Kobe connected for three yards and a touchdown to get within 20-10.
 
The Pioneers scored another touchdown and kicked a field goal as time expired to put UWSP down 30-10 at the half.
 
Shoen intercepted a pass near midfield on the first play of the second half, but UWSP couldn't capitalize on the turnover.
 
The Pioneers scored one touchdown in the third quarter and two more in the fourth to complete the scoring. UWSP did drive into UWP territory in the fourth quarter, but the drive stalled at the UWP 19 and UWSP turned the ball over on downs.
 
The Pointers continue league play on the road next Saturday (Oct. 14) with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at UW-Stout.
