MENOMONIE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-5, 0-3) got a huge day from
Miles Gallagher (Racine, Wis./William Horlick), but fell, 51-14, at UW-Stout (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday.
Gallagher posted the highest receiving yards total of the season with 156 on just five catches on Saturday. Two of his catches were touchdown receptions of 71 and 56 yards. It marked Gallagher's second-highest receiving yards of his career (186 at UW-Eau Claire on Oct. 29, 2022).
Quarterback
Jacob Leair (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) completed 13 passes for 202 yards, including both touchdown strikes to Gallagher.
Charlie Smith (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) completed four of seven passes for 21 yards. Neither QB yielded an interception.
Defensively,
Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the Pointers with nine tackles.
Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) added eight and the duo combined for 1.5 tackles for loss.
Cody Trowbridge (Milladore, Wis./Auburndale) had an interception.
After forcing a three-and-out, the Blue Devils needed just five plays to go 66 yards to put UWSP in a 7-0 hole.
UWSP's second drive looked more promising with Leair connecting with Jeremey Kobe on consecutive passes to move the chains. Another completion to Gallagher got the Pointers into Stout territory. But the first turnover of the game doomed the drive.
The Blue Devils turned the takeaway into a touchdown seven plays later and UWSP trailed 14-0. Two plays into the second quarter, Stout kicked a field goal and deficit was 17-0.
After a pair of short rushes opened the next UWSP drive, Leair and Gallagher connected for 71 yards to get the Pointers on the board.
Momentum quickly swung back to Stout as the first play of the next drive was a 74-yard run and the Blue Devils punched it in on the next play. On the ensuing kickoff, UWSP lost its second fumble of the game. Four plays later, the Blue Devils were in the end zone for a 31-7 lead.
The Pointers began the next drive with two short rushes. Again on third down, Leair and Gallagher hooked up for a touchdown, this time from 56 yards out.
The Blue Devils scored again and the Pointers' halftime deficit was 38-14. Stout was held to two field goals in the third quarter and added a touchdown in the fourth to cap the scoring.
UWSP will return home to take on UW-River Falls next Saturday (Oct. 21). The Homecoming game is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
