Pointers Reside in Fifth After Day One of WIAC Championships

REEDSBURG, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's golf team is slotted in fifth place at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships (presented by Culver's). UWSP combined for a team score of 350 after 18 holes of action in Reedsburg as they sit six strokes away from fourth-place UW-Platteville Pioneers.

Location: Reedsburg Country Club, Reedsburg, Wis.
UWSP: 5th out of 8
 
Top UWSP Individual: Kate Downie (Hortonville, WIs./Hortonville) wrapped up the day as the Pointers top finisher as she shot an 85 (+13) in round one. Downie sits tied for 16th, two strokes out of the top-10.
Notables: Andrea Tietz (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) finished just behind Downie as she shot an 86 (+14) on the day finishing tied for 23rd. Rae Barwick (Waterford, Wis./Waterford Union) finished next up for UWSP as she capped off day one sporting an 89 (+17) to slot into a tie for 31st place. Bree Downie (Hortonville, Wis./Hortonville) shot a 90 (+18) on the day to finish round one tied for 36th. Rounding out the Pointers golfers in day one at the WIAC Championships was Jenny Marshall (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) who shot a 91 (+19) on the day to finish tied for 42nd.
 
Tournament Highlights
Top Team: UW-Stout currently holds first place as they shot a combined 324 for an eight-stroke lead over UW-La Crosse. The Blue Devils have both golfers who are tied for first place along with another golfer in the top-15.
Top Individual: Abbey Filipiak and Sydney Grimm of UW-Stout share first place as they both posted a formidable day, each shooting a 75 (+3). They both hold a five-stroke lead over the next highest finisher from UW-La Crosse.

Up next: Saturday (Oct. 7) is the second round of the WIAC Championships. Tee time is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
