STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 18 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (15-3, 2-1) earned its sixth-consecutive home sweep with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 26-24) win over visiting UW-La Crosse (13-8, 0-3) in league play on Friday.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) posted a season-high 41 assists for the Pointers, two more than her previous season-best. Her total was more than three times the UWL leader in the match.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) posted the only double-figures kills in the match with 23, her season-best.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) was the only player in double digits in digs with 15.
Kopp had seven kills and
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added two as UWSP burst ahead 18-7 in the first set following an 8-0 run. Kopp and Thomka combined for four kills down the stretch as the Pointers eased to the first set win.
Thomka and Kopp combined for five kills as UWSP rallied for a 7-6 lead in the second. Thomka and
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had a kill and a block each as the Pointers took a 21-14 lead.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) and
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) each had a late kill to secure the second set victory.
Erlandson had an ace to go with a kill each by Mosinski, Kopp, Paukner and Shaw for a 6-3 advantage to begin the third set. Shaw had two kills and
Emily Nielsen (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) served an ace for a 12-9 lead. Kopp powered down five kills and an ace for a 21-17 lead. The Eagles rallied to tie the set at 21 and again at 24 before consecutive kills by Kopp closed the match.
UWSP will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 11) for a 7:00 p.m. match at UW-Stout.
