Women’s Soccer Comes Back to Advance in WIAC Tournament

OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (8-10-1) scored three unanswered goals to move on to the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) with a 3-1 win at UW-Oshkosh (5-10-4).
 
The Pointers fell into a 1-0 hole in the 22nd minute as the host Titans found the back of the net first.
 
Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) pulled the Pointers level in the 39th minute. Her fourth goal of the season was assisted on by Heather Iverson (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco).
 
Three minutes later, Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) put the Pointers in front. Her unassisted goal in the 42nd minute was her league-leading ninth of the season.
 
In the second half, senior Gina Wasniewski (Ironton, Minn./Brainerd) scored her second of the season. Dunn picked up the helper on the 55th-minute goal.
 
UWSP goalkeeper Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) made six of her 13 saves over the final 30 minutes of play to secure the win.
 
The Pointers advance to face top-seed and No. 11-ranked UW-La Crosse on Thursday (Nov. 2). Kickoff in La Crosse is slated for 6:00 p.m.
