LA CROSSE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (8-11-1) saw its season end with a 5-0 loss at No. 11 UW-La Crosse (16-1-1) in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) semifinals on Thursday.
Senior
Gina Wasniewski (Ironton, Minn./Brainerd) led the Pointers with three shots on the night in her final match in a UWSP kit.
Freshman goalkeeper
Jessica Nigbur (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) posted double-digit saves for the third-straight match with 14.
The host Eagles took the lead in the sixth minute of play. UWL doubled its lead in the eighth minute and scored again the 37th minute to put UWSP down, 3-0, at the half.
UWSP's closest scoring chance came in the 34th minute when Wasniewski hit the cross bar.
Mara Gustafson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and
Cass Klitzke (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) each had a shot on goal in the first 45.
Wasniewski and
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop Lynch) each had a shot on goal in the second half. UWL tacked on goals in the 55th and 65th minutes to complete the scoring.
The Pointers' eight wins this season was an improvement over the 2022 season. UWSP ended the year with five wins in the final nine matches.
