FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (1-2-0) earned its first victory of the season, 3-1, at Marian (0-1-0) on Tuesday night.
Freshman
Alyssa Yokom (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown) netted her first collegiate goal at 12:40 of the first period to put the Pointers ahead.
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) picked up her second point of the season with an assist.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) scored her second goal in as many games at the 11:32 mark of the second period. Her eventual game-winner was assisted on by
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) and
Josie Bender (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port).
The Sabres got on the board late in the second period to cut UWSP's lead to 2-1.
Grace Torma (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) gave UWSP a two-goal lead again at 11:50 of the third period.
Natalie Ahern (Byron, Minn./Byron) picked up a helper on the goal.
Emily Griege (Chesterfield, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) recorded her first career win with 22 saves. Marian goaltender Abby Edstrom had 23 saves as the Pointers spoiled Marian's home opener.
The Pointers will face St. Catherine in UWSP's home opener on Saturday (Nov. 4). Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is slated for 7:00 p.m.
