STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 18 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (14-3) recorded its fifth-straight home sweep to begin the season with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-16) win over visiting St. Catherine University (9-5) on Tuesday night.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) racked up her 11th double-double of the year with a match-best 16 kills and 13 digs. She added two aces and a block.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) had a game-high 33 assists.
Tessa Erlandson (Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon Wanamingo) had eight digs, snapping a streak of 10-straight matches in double figures.
Kopp had four early kills as UWSP jumped out to an 8-3 lead.
Carly Thomka (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) had an ace and two kills as SCU stayed close at 21-19.
Lauren Shaw (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) and
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) combined for three kills as the Pointers closed the first set with a 4-0 burst.
Kopp and Mosinski had two kills each as the teams matched up to a 10-10 score in the second set. Kopp had two kills and two aces as UWSP leveraged a 10-2 run into a 20-12 lead. Shaw had two kills and a block down the stretch as UWSP took a 2-0 lead.
Five kills by Kopp put the Pointers up 7-3 early in the third. After the Wildcats got within 15-14, a 9-2 run was capped with three blocks by Mosinski as UWSP finished the sweep.
The Pointers remain at home to take on UW-La Crosse in a conference match on Friday (Oct. 6) at 7:00 p.m.
