NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (0-2-0) were unable to hold two different leads in a 4-3 defeat at St. Olaf (2-0-0) to close out opening weekend in Minnesota.
Annika Horman (Appleton, Wis./North) scored the Pointers' first goal of the season at 6:15 of the first period.
Grace Torma (Centerville, Minn./Centennial) assisted on the goal.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) doubled the UWSP lead at 10:19 of the first with
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) adding a helper. The Oles cut the lead in half at 14:19 of the first on a power-play tally, but the Pointers held the lead after one period of play.
St. Olaf tied the game at 2-2 at the 8:25 mark of the second period.
Less than three minutes later,
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) gave the Pointers the lead again. Her goal at 11:01 of the second was unassisted.
Just over a minute later, the Oles tied the game again. At 1:28 of the third period, St. Olaf took its first lead and held on the remainder of the game.
Anne Beck (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) made her Pointers' debut in net and had 34 saves. St. Olaf goaltender Hannah Fritz had 14 saves in the win.
The Pointers close out the season-opening road swing at Marian on Tuesday (Oct. 31). Puck drop in Fond du Lac is set for 8:00 p.m.
