OSHKOSH, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-7, 0-5) got its second-highest offensive output of the season in a 66-28 defeat at UW-Oshkosh (5-3, 3-2) on Saturday.
UWSP quarterback
Jacob Leair (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) tossed a career-best four touchdown passes. He completed 20 in the game for 220 yards.
Matt Getgen (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) caught two of those touchdown passes with
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) and
Jeffery Williams (Brodhead, Wis./Brodhead) each catching another. Cashin led the ground game with 81 yards on 12 carries.
Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the defense with eight tackles.
Alex Sippy (Salem, Wis./Westosha Central) contributed seven tackles.
The Titans found the end zone on each of their three drives in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead.
UWSP settled in offensively late in the first. After gaining an initial first down as the quarter elapsed, Leair completed a 15-yard pass to Getgen capping a methodical 16-play drive.
On the next UWSP drive, Leair went 4-for-4 through the air culminating with a 36-yard TD strike to Williams to get UWSP within 28-14.
Leair completed three more passes on the Pointers' first drive of the third quarter. His final pass of the drive was caught by Cashin for a 15-yard touchdown.
The Pointers' final scoring drive came late in the third quarter. Leair kept the drive alive with a 29-yard connection with Getgen on fourth down. He and Getgen connected again three plays later for a 21-yard touchdown.
UWSP will close out the season with back-to-back home games starting next Saturday (Nov. 4) with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff against UW-Whitewater.
