STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Steven Point football (1-6, 0-4) fell in Saturday's Homecoming Game to visiting No. 8/11 UW-River Falls (6-1, 3-1) by a 75-14 final.
The Pointers got touchdowns from
Seth Forbes (Manawa, Wis./Little Wolf) on the ground and
Miles Gallagher (Racine, Wis./William Horlick) through the air.
Quarterbacks
Jacob Leair (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) and
Stephen Schreiter (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) combined for 21 completions for 222 yards. Eight different receivers had catches in the game. On the ground,
Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) had a team-high 10 rushing attempts, but was bottled up for just 16 net yards.
Defensively, the Pointers forced four fumbles, recovering three of them.
Dakota Carriveau (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) forced a fumble and led the Pointers with seven tackles, two for loss.
The Falcons took the opening kickoff and five plays later were in the endzone. A missed extra point only put the Pointers behind, 6-0.
After a three-and-out offensively, the Pointers got the ball back on a
Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) fumble recovery, causing by
Connor Jeske (Colby, Wis./Colby). But the Pointers went three-and-out again.
The Falcons found the end zone on the next three possessions and UWSP trailed 27-0 after one quarter. The first play of the second quarter saw the Falcons score again.
UWSP finally got a productive drive going in the second quarter. Leair moved the chains with a 12-yard run. After a pair of short rushes, Leair hit Gallagher for a 45-yard touchdown reception as UWSP got on the board to make it 34-7.
UWRF scored on the next three possessions and UWSP's deficit was 55-7 at the half. The Falcons scored twice more in the third quarter for a 69-7 lead.
Schreiter orchestrated a 12-play scoring drive in the fourth quarter for UWSP.
Reed Smith (Powell, Wyo./Powell) had a 14-yard rush and
Ryder LeSage (West De Pere, Wis./West De Pere) had a 35-yard catch to chew up big chunks of yards on the drive. Forbes got into the end zone from four yards out to make it 69-14.
The Falcons scored again late with another missed extra point to close out the scoring.
The Pointers travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Oct. 28) for the final road game of the season. Kickoff in Oshkosh is set for 1:35 p.m.
