EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-11-1, 2-6-0) pushed No. 8 UW-Eau Claire (17-3-1, 8-1-0) to overtime before a late 2-1 defeat in the extra session.
The Blugolds broke the scoreless tie just 2:46 into the game. The UWSP deficit would remain at just one goal as UWSP goaltender
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) had eight first-period saves.
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) scored her second of the season and of the series with UWEC at the 12:08 mark of the second period to tie the game.
Schultz made 12 saves in the second period to keep the game tied. Neither team was able to score in the third period with Schultz pocketing 16 more saves to secure a point for the Pointers as the game went to overtime.
Schultz made four more saves in overtime, but the Blugolds found the game winner at 4:17 of OT. Schultz finished with 40 saves. UWEC goaltender Stephanie Martin had 11 saves.
The Pointers travel to Northland for the final road games of the regular season on Friday (Feb. 3) and Saturday (Feb. 4). Puck drop on Friday is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
