MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 9 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (13-5-3, 9-2-0) dropped a 3-1 final to UW-Stout (15-5-1, 6-4-1) in the series finale on Saturday.
Neither team scored in the first period, much like Friday's game. But the Blue Devils were the first on the board Saturday with a goal at 3:27 of the second.
Holding a one-goal lead heading to the third, Stout pushed the UWSP deficit to 2-0 at 7:26 of the third.
The Pointers got on the board minutes later on their second power play of the game.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) scored his seventh of the year with
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) and
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) providing assists on the play.
A late empty-net goal by Stout spoiled the Pointers' attempt at an equalizer.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) made 25 saves in net for the Pointers. Stout goaltender Tyler Masternak had 28 saves.
The Pointers will face Northland at on Friday (Feb. 3) and Saturday (Feb. 4) in the final regular season home games. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. both nights.
