Zipp Nets Goal for Women’s Hockey at Home Against UWEC

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (8-10-1, 2-5-0) fell by a 4-1 final in Friday's home game against No. 8 UW-Eau Claire (16-3-1, 7-1-0).

Despite a solid first period by UWSP goaltender Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan), the visiting Blugolds were able to put two goals on the board for a 2-0 lead after one.

Senior Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) got UWSP within a goal at 1:39 of the second period. Freshman Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) poked the puck from in front of net to the back post where Zipp tapped in the goal, her third of the season.

UWEC scored two goals later in the second period to push the deficit to 4-1. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the third period.

Schultz racked up 37 saves for the Pointers. UWEC goaltender Stephanie Martin made 18 saves.

UWSP and UWEC conclude the regular season series on Saturday (Jan. 28). Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Eau Claire.
