MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 9 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (13-4-3, 9-1-0) picked up a massive three points in the standings with a 4-1 win at UW-Stout (14-5-1, 5-4-1) on Friday night.
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz./) scored his first goal as a Pointer, a power-play tally at 4:25 of the second period, to break a scoreless tie.
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) picked up an assist on the play.
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C./) doubled the UWSP lead at 7:11 of the second.
Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont./) and
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) assisted on the eventual game-winner. The assist for Fader was his 70th career point coming in his 100th game at UWSP.
The Blue Devils got on the board at 9:26 of the second.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) pushed the UWSP lead to two goals with another power-play goal late in the second period.
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) and
Tyler German (Canton, Mich./) had helpers on the goal as UWSP lead 3-1 heading to the third.
Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn./) hit an empty net from the defensive zone blue line at the 18:09 mark fo the third period to complete the scoring.
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) was the 10th different Pointer to pick up a point on the night with an assist.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) made 29 saves to earn the win. Stout goaltender Dawson Green had 22 saves.
The Pointers and Blue Devils close out the weekend and the season series on Saturday (Jan. 28). Puck drop in Menomonie is set for 7:00 p.m.
