STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (12-3-3, 8-0-0) completed a weekend sweep of visiting UW-River Falls (7-11-1, 1-7-1) with a 5-2 win on Saturday.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) broke a scoreless tie at 15:22 of the first period, his fifth of the season.
Tyler German (Canton, Mich./) had the assist on the goal.
The Falcons tied the game at 3:13 of the second period.
Just 17 seconds later, the Pointers regained the lead.
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich./) notched his team-leading ninth of the year off assists from
Sean Bunting (Phoenix, Ariz./) and
Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn./).
Later in the second, the Falcons pulled even. Again, it didn't take long for UWSP to retake the lead. At 18:36,
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont./) put UWSP in front, 3-2, with the eventual game-winner. Gonrowski picked up his second assist of the night.
Poulias scored again at 6:46 of the third period, a power-play goal with
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) and
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) providing assists.
The Pointers got another power-play goal at 12:27 of the third with
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich./) pushing the lead to 5-2.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa./) and
Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill./) had helpers on the play.
UWSP goaltender
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) made 24 saves for the win. UWRF goaltender Dean Buchholz had 43 saves.
The Pointers travel to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Jan. 25) to close out the season series. Puck drop at Hobbs Ice Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
