STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women' basketball team (10-8, 2-5) fell to visiting UW-Oshkosh (12-5, 3-4) by a 58-38 final on Wednesday.
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) led the Pointers in scoring with nine points. She hit two three-pointers, the third time in the last she has made multiple shots from behind the arc.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added eight points and
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led the Pointers on the glass with seven rebounds.
Two minutes in, Gawlitta hit a jumper to tie the game at 2-2.
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North) tied the game at four and back-to-back triples by Slowik gave UWSP a 10-9 lead.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) buried a three and UWSP led 13-11 after one.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) scored UWSP's first basket of the second quarter. Slowik made a layup followed by a jumper by
Abbie Campion (Janesville, Wis./Milton) for a 21-16 lead. Campion and McIntyre each scored again as the Pointers trailed 28-25 at the half.
Krueger opened the second half with a bucket, but UWSP went dry from the field until a
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) jumper snapped a 10-1 run by UWO. The Titans scored the final six points and UWSP's deficit was 44-30 heading to the fourth.
Gawlitta hit an early jumper and Krueger nailed another three, but UWSP made just three free throws the final 8:21 of the game in the defeat.
The Pointers travel to Platteville to begin the second half of league play on Saturday (Jan. 21). Tip off against the Pioneers is slated for 3:00 p.m.
