STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (7-8-1, 2-3-0) again hung tough against No. 2 UW-River Falls (14-2-0, 5-0-0) in a 3-1 home defeat on Saturday afternoon.
Neither team scored in the first period as UWSP netminder
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 18 of her 44 saves in the first 20 minutes.
The visiting Falcons got on the board at the 4:38 mark of the second period. In the final minute of the period, UWRF doubled the lead to 2-0.
UWSP began the third period on the power play and took advantage.
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) tipped in a shot to get UWSP within a goal just 23 seconds into the third.
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake) and
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) added helpers to the power-play tally.
The Falcons scored a shorthanded goal at 7:44 of the third period to complete the scoring.
The Pointers continue the homestand on Tuesday (Jan. 17) with a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game against Marian at K.B. Willett Arena.
