EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (10-7, 2-4) dropped a 57-38 decision at No. 14 UW-Eau Claire (14-3, 5-1) on Saturday.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) led the Pointers in scoring with eight points.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) had seven and
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) added six as UWSP was held to its lowest shooting percentage of the season.
Gawlitta made a layup in the opening minute as the Pointers tied the game at 2-2.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) and Thomson each had a bucket, but UWSP trailed 17-6 after one.
Nies and Gawlitta each made each field goals as UWSP close the gap to single digits.
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North) scored five points and Nies added a basket in the final seconds as the deficit was 33-19 at the half.
Courtney Krueger (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) drilled a three and Nies had four points early in the third. Pfeifer had a late layup as UWSP got to within 44-33 heading to the fourth.
Thomson scored all five of UWSP's points in the fourth quarter as UWEC held a sizable advantage the rest of the game.
The Pointers return home for a 7:00 p.m. game against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Jan. 18) at Shirley Egner Court at Berg Gym.
