SARTELL, Minn. – The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (10-3-3) fell by a 3-2 final at Saint John's (9-6-2) on Saturday night.
The host Johnnies took the lead 4:23 into the game. Later in the first period, UWSP got its first power play of the game.
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) scored the power-play goal to tie the game at 15:01 of the first.
Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich./) and
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont./) assisted on the goal.
SJU scored the only goal of the second period to take a one-goal advantage to the third. At 11;51 of the third, the Johnnies upped the lead to 3-1.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) got the Pointers within one at the 12:29 mark of the third.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) and
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) provided assists on the play.
The Pointers out-shot the Johnnies, 8-0, the rest of the game, but could not find an equalizer.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) suffered his first career loss with 26 saves. SJU goaltender Bailey Huber had 41 saves in the win.
The Pointers return home, and to league play, with a weekend series against UW-River Falls beginning on Friday (Jan. 20) at 7:00 p.m.
