Timm’s Double-Double Leads a Quartet of Double-Figures Scorers in Pointers Win

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Sophomore Brennan Timm (West Bend, Wis./West) recorded his second double-double of the season to lead the UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team (9-8, 2-4) to a 73-70 win over visiting UW-Eau Claire (11-6, 3-3).

Timm led the Pointers in scoring with 16 points and rebounds with 10. Zach Mootz (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) added 13 points. Luke Warden (Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy) and Jake Buchanan (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly) had 12 points each to round out the quartet of Pointers in double figures.

Timm Scored UWSP's first four points and Warden the next six as UWEC jumped ahead 17-10 early. Mootz buried a pair of threes in a personal point spurt as UWSP closed to within 20-18 just past the middle of the first half.

AJ Makinen (Waterford, Wis./Muskego), Myles Coleman (Milwaukee, Wis./Brookfield Central) and Timm, three times, had layups to tie the game. Mootz put UWSP in front for the first time with a three. He gave UWSP the lead again with just over a minute remaining, but UWSP trailed 36-35 at the break.

Warden and Ryan Genrich (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) scored a bucket each as a slow start saw the Pointers down 48-39 seven minutes in. Buchanan nailed a pair of threes as UWSP began the comeback.

Coleman gave UWSP its first lead of the half with 5:29 to go, 58-57. Josiah Gillie (Milwaukee, Wis./West Allis) pulled UWSP even at 60-all and Buchanan drained consecutive threes to push the run to 8-0. UWSP made 7-of-8 free throws the rest of the game. UWEC made a game-tying three, but the shot came after the buzzer as UWSP prevailed.

The Pointers travel to UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Jan. 18) for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Titans.
