ST. PAUL, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (0-2-1) played host Hamline (1-0-2) to a 0-0 draw on Wednesday in non-conference action.
Senior goalkeeper
Miranda Nieman (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) recorded her first clean sheet of the season and eighth career shutout with six saves in the match.
UWSP also registered six shots on goal as Hamline goalkeepers Lauren Sicora and Ava Braun each played a half.
Nieman made a pair of saves early in the first half.
Kati Frierdich (Neenah, Wis./Winneconne) was first to test the Pipers goalkeeper in the 20th minute.
Mara Gustafson (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and
Madison Culli (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) each had a shot on target in the first half as the teams were even at 0-0 with three shots apiece at the break.
Gabby Dunn (Dallas, Texas/Bishop) tested the new Hamline keeper in the 70th minute. As time wound down,
Jessica Camarato (DeForest, Wis./DeForest Area) had two shots on goals within a minute in the 87th minute. Nieman made one last save with just over a minute remaining to secure the shutout.
In addition to the score, the remainder of the stats were nearly even as well. Hamline earned six corners to UWSP's five. Total shots favored the home side, 19-18, with both putting six on target. Each team was issued a yellow card.
The Pointers road trip continues on Friday (Sept. 9) with a 2:00 p.m. match at Coe.
