STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 13 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (14-3, 1-2) dropped a four-set battle with visiting UW-Oshkosh (17-4, 2-1) in league play on Friday night.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) again recorded a double-double with 22 kills and 16 digs.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) just missed a double-double with a match-high 41 assists and nine digs.
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) and
Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) each were in double figures in kills with 12 and 11, respectively.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led all players with 27 digs.
Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) and Meyer combined for five kills as UWSP jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set. Kopp buried back-to-back kills but the Titans strung a 5-0 run together to take a 12-11 lead.
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) had two kills in a 9-1 UWSP run to go up 21-14. Larson served up consecutive aces to secure set one, 25-16.
The Titans used a 5-0 run early to take a 5-3 lead. The teams alternated two-point bursts and UWO took a 17-12 lead with four-straight points. Meyer had three kills as UWSP got within 19-18. Kopp drilled three kills late as UWSP thwarted four set points before UWO took the set, 25-23.
Kopp had four kills as UWSP went ahead 12-9 in the third. A 10-2 run by the Titans put UWSP behind 19-14. Mosinski had two kills and three blocks in an 8-1 run as UWSP jumped back in front, 22-20. A Kopp kill gave UWSP set point but UWO scored three-straight to gain its own set point. Kopp and
Mady Hanse (Tomahawk, Wis./Tomahawk) answered with back-to-back kills for another UWSP set point. The teams exchanged point and UWO scored the final three for a 29-27 win.
Michalske, Kopp and Mosinski each had a kill in 6-1 run as UWSP gained a 10-8 advantage in the fourth. Kopp and Meyer combined for eight kills the rest of the way but the Titans took set four, 25-21.
The Pointers remain at home for a 4:00 p.m. match on Saturday (Oct. 1) against No. 16 Augsburg.
