STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team earned its first league win of the year with a 9-0 shutout of visiting UW-Stout on Wednesday.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and partner
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) earned an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. UWSP's No. 1 doubles duo of Quinlyn Mack and Tristin Jantz completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles. Covek gave up just one point in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
Maya Kunze rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Jantz got the win at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 6 singles,
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) earned a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Mack had the closest singles match, needing a super-breaker to complete the sweep. She earned a 6-2 win in the first set, but fell by a 604 score in the second set. In the super-breaker, Mack prevailed, 10-6.
The Pointers head to Minnesota on Friday (Sept. 23) for the ITA Midwest Regionals. Action is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
