Gerred, Wasniewski Score for Pointers in Home Defeat

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team (2-5-2) dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting Carroll (6-1-1) in non-conference play at Point Soccer Bowl on Wednesday.

The Pioneers got on the board in the 10th minute to take an early lead.

Senior Shea-Lynn Gerred (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) pulled the Pointers level in the 22nd minute. She dribbled the ball all the way from her outside back position, through midfield and fired a laser into the net for the tying goal. It was Gerred's third goal of the year, tied for the team lead, and her team-best eighth point of the season.

Carroll regained the lead in the 30th minute, but it was another solo effort that pulled UWSP even. Four minutes later, Gina Wasniewski (Ironton, Minn./Brainerd) picked up a loose ball near midfield. As she approached the 18, she ripped a shot into the top corner to make it a 2-2 match.

The match remained tied at 2-2 until the 69th minute. Carroll put the go-ahead goal in the net, the eventual match-winner. In the 80th minute, the Pioneers added on an insurance goal and held on for th 4-2 win.

UWSP goalkeeper Bergen Beversdorf (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) made six saves in net.  Carroll keeper Caitlin Fitzsimons made five saves for the win.

The Pointers close out the homestand on Tuesday (Sept. 27) with a 3:00 p.m. match against Wheaton.
