WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis started the season 2-0 after defeating Wisconsin Lutheran, 8-1, and Ripon, 9-0, on Thursday.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) combined for a pair of doubles victories, 8-3 at No. 2 against WLC and 8-1 at No. 1 versus Ripon. Covek went 2-0 in singles play and Leithold notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles in the WLC match.
Grace Henes (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) and
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) also won two doubles matches by 8-5 and 8-4 scores. The duo won singles matches against Ripon as well with Henes taking No. 5 by a 6-0, 6-1 scores and Scharf winning at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.
Maya Kunze and Brooklynn Steier combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles against Ripon. The pair won No. 3 and No. 4 singles against the Redhawks dropping just one point.
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) won two singles matches on the day. She took the No. 3 singles match versus WLC, 6-0, 6-1, and the No. 1 singles versus Ripon, 6-2, 6-1.
Tristin Jantz and Quinlyn Mack were victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, in the opener against WLC. Mack won, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 with Jantz earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
The Pointers travel to Iowa on Saturday (Sept. 3) for an 11:00 a.m. match at Loras.
