STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team (17-3) began its spring season with a 6-3 win over NACC Champion Edgewood (9-5) on Sunday.
Jordan Scharf (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) and
Kaylee Woelfel (Plymouth,Wis/Plymouth) went 2-0 in the day combining for an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Scharf won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6. Woelfel took the No. 5 singles by a 6-2, 6-2 final.
Barbara Covek (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) won at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Jenna Koepp (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) won at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4 and
Chloe Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles.
Covek and Koepp dropped the No. 1 doubles match in a tiebreak, 8-7 (7-2).
Faith Leithold (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska) also had a tough battle at No. 1 singles against the NACC Player of the Year, 6-2, 6-0.
The Pointers travel to Mequon on Saturday (April 9) to take on Concordia and Wisconsin Lutheran at 1:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
