Pointers Claw Back, Walk Off in Extra Versus Wooster

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (6-1) won in dramatic comeback fashion on Monday taking down Wooster (6-3) for just the second time in program history with an 11-10 win in 10 innings.
 
Matt Baumann (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) collected three hits on the day, including the walk-off single. It was his only RBI of the day and he scored twice. Lucas Luedtke (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) also had a three-hit day. He drove in two.
 
Aaron Simmons (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) and Payton Nelson (Wausau, Wis./West) had two hits each. Nelson drove in two and scored three times. Simmons extended his hitting streak to 15 games dating back to last season. He added an RBI and scored once.
 
Wooster opened the game with a three-spot in the top of the first with three hits, two of which came with two outs.
 
Baumann led of the first for the Pointers with a single through the left side. Two batters later, Nelson doubled down the line to put two in scoring position. Bradley Comer (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander) was intentionally walked to load the bases. Quin Henwood (Appleton, Wis./North) lifted a sac fly to center to get UWSP on the board. Luedtke followed with an RBI single as UWSP got within 3-2.
 
The Scots posted two runs in the second and two more in the third to take a 7-2 lead. UWSP got a run back in the third after Nelson was hit by a pitch and Luedtke drove him in with a two-out single.
 
The teams each scored a run in the sixth. UWSP's came on a pinch-hit home run by Brenden Canterbury (Waupaca, Wis./Waupaca). Then Wooster added single tallies in the seventh and the eighth to put the Pointers behind 10-4.
 
In the bottom of the eighth, the Pointers seized the momentum. Jacob Lillge (Little Chute, Wis./Little Chute) led off with a single. Logan Matson (Neillsville, Wis./Neillsville) and Baumann followed suit to load the bases. A wild pitch brought the first run home. Simmons drew a walk to load the bases again. Nelson laced a double down the left field line to plate two. Comer followed with a single pushing home two more as UWSP got within one heading to the ninth.
 
Matson reached on a error to start the UWSP ninth. After moving to second on a wild pitch, Simmons doubled to center to tie the game. UWSP stranded two on bases to send the game to extras.
 
Connor Flanagan (Rolesville, N.C./) walked to begin the 10th. He stole second and Jake Tapia (Loves Park, Ill./Belvidere North) followed with a base on balls. With two down, Baumann torched a single to right-center as UWSP walked off with the win.
 
Nathan Krommenakker (Rudolph, Wis./Lincoln) picked up the victory with 2.0 perfect frames to end the game. He struck out two. Nick Carpenter (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) also had two strikeout in 4.0 innings of relief. Casey Pickering (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) struck out three in 4.0 as the starter.
 
UWSP will face Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday (March 22). First pitch has been adjust to 2:00 p.m. ET.
