Pointers Net Season-High Eight Goals in Home Win Over Yellowjackets

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 11 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (13-5-1) scored a eight goals for the first time since February 2020 in an 8-3 win over UW-Superior (12-6-2) in non-conference action on Wednesday.
 
UWSP needed just 14 seconds to put the first goal int eh back of the net. Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill.) supplied the early tally off an assist from Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont.).
 
Later in the first, Tyler German (Canton, Mich.) scored off a feed from Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich.) at the 16:35 mark.
 
At the 2:35 mark of the second, Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C.) tickled the twine for the first time on the night with a power-play tally.  Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) picked up his first of three points with an assist.
 
Less than two minutes later, Fader netter a shorthanded goal with Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C.) picking up an assist.
 
The Yellowjackets broke the shutout at 13:15 of the second period, but 18 seconds later Connor Scahill (Port Huron, Mich.) made it 5-1.  Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich.) recorded an assist on the play.
 
Just over a minute later, Fader scored his second of the period with Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont.) getting an assist.
 
In the final minute of the second period, Finstrom scored to make it 7-1.  Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn.) had an assist on the play.
 
Following a pair of goals by the visitors, McReynolds netted his second power-play goal of the night at 14:29 of the third to complete the scoring. Poulias and Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) had assists.
 
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind.) made 16 saves to record his 11th win of the season. UW-Superior goaltenders Myles Hector and Landon Pavlisin had 15 saves each.
 
The Pointers continue the homestand on Friday (Feb. 4) with the first of a two-game weekend series versus UW-Stout. Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
