GREENWOOD, Ind. – UW-Stevens Point men's basketball's Garrett Nelson (Beaver Dam, Wis./Beaver Dam) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VI team, the organization announced on Thursday (Feb. 17).

Nelson becomes just the sixth UWSP recipient of the award and first since Alex Richard in 2015. On the court, Nelson leads the Pointers with a 14.7 points per game scoring average. He has scored in double figures in 16 of his 19 starts this season.
 
In 2021, Nelson was named to the All-WIAC honorable mention team.  He is also a four-time recipient of the WIAC Honor Roll.  He holds a 4.00 grade point average in his graduate studies while majoring in business administration.
 
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.  Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form
 
Honorees selected First Team Academic All-District® advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
