SUPERIOR, Wis. – Senior
Dani Heitsman (Janesville, Wis./Rock County Fury) recorded her third career two-goal game as the UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (11-13-0, 5-6-0) defeated UW-Superior (7-11-1, 2-4-0) by a 3-1 final in the Pointers' conference finale.
Heitsman opened the scoring at 10:18 of the first period with
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) and
Molly Millar (Anchorage, Alaska/East) assisting.
Less than a minute later, Heitsman made it 2-0 on a power-play goal.
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) racked up her team-leading 13th assist on the play.
UWSP took a 3-0 lead as
Nicole Neuberger (Minnetrista, Minn./Orono) netted a power-play goal at the 4:00 mark of the second period.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) and
Mary Kremer (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead Warhawks) had helpers on the goal.
The Yellowjackets got on the board in the third period to avert the shutout.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 26 saves in the win. UWS goaltender McKenzie Whalen had 21 saves.
The Pointers will close out the regular season with a non-conference game at Concordia (Wis.) on Tuesday (Feb. 15). Puck drop in Mequon is at 7:00 p.m.
