ASHLAND, Wis. – The No. 10 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (17-5-1, 10-2-0) regained sole possession of the WIAC lead with one game remaining after a 6-2 win at Northland (4-17-3, 1-12-1) on Friday night.
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa.) scored his first of the game at 11:44 of the first period giving UWSP a 1-0 lead.
Carter Roo (Champlin, Minn.) and
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill.) picked up assists.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa.) netted his first in a Pointers sweater at 13:59 of the first to make it 2-0.
Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis.) got an assist, his first of three on the night.
The Pointers made it 3-0 as
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn.) scored at the 5:38 mark of the second period with Fader on the assist.
At 9:44 of the second, Fader set up
Brandon McReynolds (North Vancouver, B.C.) for a shorthanded goal and a 4-0 lead.
Hill scored again at 16:59 of the second period with Sciarrino on the helper. The Lumberjacks scored twice in the second period, including a tally with 10.4 seconds remaining.
The teams nearly skated to a scoreless third period. But
Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill.) got UWSP's sixth goal of the game at 18:18 on assists from Moline and Hill. It was Hill's first career three-point night.
The Pointers close out league play on Saturday (Feb. 12) at Northland with a 2:00 p.m. scheduled contest.
