STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team (5-3-1, 2-1-0) tallied a power-play goal in each period in a 5-1 win over visiting Northland (2-9-0, 0-5-0) in league play on Saturday.
Courtney Leising (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) scored her first of the game at 2:12 of the first period. Her power-play goal was assisted on by
Laina Berthiaume (South Haven, Minn./Hutchinson) and
Maike Zipp (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac).
UWSP held the lead until Northland tied the game at 7:57 of the first. The goal was one of just 20 shots on goal by the Lumberjills.
Madison Stebbeds (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) scored her first career goal at 14:22 of the first period, the eventual game-winner. Berthiaume notched her second assist of the game and
Sara Aadalen (Wayzata, Minn./Wayzata) also had a helper.
At 5:22 of the second period,
Ali Granovsky (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) scored a power-play goal as Aadalen added her second assists of the game.
In the third period,
Maddie Andrle (Blaine, Minn./Blaine) pushed the lead to 4-1 off a feed from
Katie Stanius (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake). Leising capped the scoring at 18:26 of the third period with an unassisted shorthanded goal.
Olivia Schultz (Maplewood, Minn./Tartan) made 19 saves to earn the win. The Pointers fired 58 shots on Northland goaltender Sky Hughes, the sixth-most in school history. She made 53 saves.
UWSP faces St. Catherine on Tuesday (Dec. 6) in the final home game of 2022. Puck drop at K.B. Willett Arena is slated for 6:00 p.m.
