Sciarrino’s Overtime Winner Pushes Men’s Hockey Unbeaten Streak to 11

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – For the second time in the last three games, Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa./) netted an overtime game-winner as the No. 15 UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (8-1-3, 6-0-0) won 3-2 at No. 14 UW-Eau Claire (7-5-0, 3-3-0). The win pushes UWSP's win streak to six and unbeaten streak to 11.
 
After neither team was able to break the scoreless tie in the first period, the host Blugolds struck first with a goal at 3:14 of the second period.
 
Just over 10 minutes later, Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn./) netted the tying goal, his third of the season. Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont./) and Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) posted assists on the play.
 
At the 4:01 mark of the third period, Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich./) notched his fourth goal of the weekend to put UWSP ahead, 2-1. Nick Gonrowski (New Hope, Minn./) had a helper on the goal.
 
UWSP held the one-goal advantage until the 18:04 mark of the third when UWEC tied the game to send it to overtime.
 
In the extra session, Sciarrino put home the game-winner at 2:01 off assists from Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) and Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn./).
 
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) picked up his second win in as many nights. He made 32 saves. UWEC goaltender Max Gutjahr had 26 saves.
 
The Pointers return to action on January 6 for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference home game against Hamline.
