Bukowski’s Interception Highlights Pointers’ Home Finale

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – On a soggy Senior Day, the UW-Stevens Point football team (1-8, 0-6) fell to visiting UW-Oshkosh (5-4, 3-3) by a 45-0 final at Goerke Park.

Marshal Bukowski (Green Bay, Wis./North East Lutheran) made his first career interception late in the second quarter. It was part of a solid half by the UWSP defense holding the Titans to 14 points in the first half.

UWSP's quarterback tandem of Trey Schroeder (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Charlie Smith (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) completed 15 passes for 120 yards. The Pointers' ground game yielded 76 yards on 33 attempts.

Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the UWSP defense with 10 tackles. Wayde Ernstmeyer (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg Area) had UWSP's lone sack in the game.

The UWSP defense stiffened on the opening drive halting the UWO drive at the UWSP 32. The Titans attempted to continue the drive on fourth down and the Pointers forced a turnover on downs.

UWO scored on the next possession and led, 7-0, at the end of one. The Titans scored again on their first drive of the second quarter to make it 14-0.

The UWSP tightened up on the next two UWO drives. With 2:42 remaining before halftime, Bukowski made an interception and returned it into UWO territory. After a missed field goal attempt, the Pointers were able to stall the final UWO drive of the half to keep it 14-0 at the break.

The opening drive of the second half saw the Pointers drive from their own 26 to the UWO 15. But the Titans stopped the Pointers on fourth down forcing the turnover.

UWO scored touchdowns on each of the next four possessions and capped the game with a field goal.

Smith led the charge on the final drive of the game. He completed five passes and had a vital 12-yard run to extend the drive. But on the final play of the game, his pass into the end zone was incomplete.

The Pointers travel to UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Nov. 12) to close out the regular season. Kick off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
