Pointers Drop Regular Season Finale at UWW

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point football team (1-9, 0-7) concluded its season with a 79-10 loss at No. 10/13 UW-Whitewater (8-2, 6-1) on Saturday.

UWSP quarterbacks Trey Schroeder (DeForest, Wis./DeForest) and Charlie Smith (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) combined for 15 completions and 137 yards on the day. Schroeder hit Joe Hare (Arlington Heights, Ill./St. Viatore) for UWSP's touchdown in the second half.

Defensively, Tysen White (McFarland, Wis./McFarland) led the way with 16 tackles and he forced a fumble. Jack Luedtke (Plymouth, Wis./Plymouth) added 12 tackles. Gavino Lopez (Dorchester, Wis./Colby) had a fumble recovery and a pass break up.

Schroeder and Brycen Cashin (Plover, Wis./Pacelli) on six rushes to begin the game to move UWSP from its own 20 to the UWW 32. After a completion to Matt Getgen (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) got the Pointers to UWW's 14, the drive stalled. Victor Ponterio (Melrose, Wis./Melrose-Mindoro) converted the 30-yard field goal and UWSP led 3-0.

The Warhawks answered with touchdowns on five-straight possessions and capped the quarter with a safety to put UWSP in a 37-3 hole after one. UWW scored touchdowns on four more possessions in the second quarter for a 65-3 lead at the break.

White came up big on the Warhawks' first possession of the second half. As the Warhawks entered the red zone, he forced a fumble at UWSP's seven and it was recovered by Lopez and returned to the 17.

The turnover sparked the offense. Four-straight completions with a short rush in the middle got the Pointers into UWW territory. Then Schroeder hit Hare from 33 yards out for a touchdown.

UWW scored two more touchdowns to complete the scoring.
