STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) put together her first career double-double to lead the UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (5-1) to a 68-42 win over Lakeland (0-5).
Pfeifer led all players with 13 rebounds in the game. She was one of four Pointers in double-figure scoring with 10 points.
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) and
Gabby Gawlitta (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) led the way with 12 points apiece.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) added 11 points.
Following a game-opening bucket by the visitors, Nies scored four-straight and Gawlitta extended the run to six. Pfeifer got on the board with three late points and UWSP led, 13-7, after the first.
Thomson nailed a three to put UWSP's lead at 10 with 7:31 left in the first half.
Emily Mortenson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) drilled a three and Thomson hit again from behind the arc to give UWSP a 28-19 advantage at the break.
Thomson opened the second half with a triple and Nies scored on the next possession for a 12-point lead. Pfeifer hit a jumper with 4:42 remaining in the third and
Olivia Hoerl (Chilton, Wis./Chilton) buried a three as UWSP ended the quarter on a 14-0 run.
Nies had six points in the fourth quarter as the lead hit 20.
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) made a three with
Jenna Sternitske (Berlin, Wis./Berlin) and
Megan Gallagher (Byron, Minn./Byron) adding late baskets to complete the victory.
The Pointers will host UW-Stout on Wednesday (Nov. 30) to begin conference play. Tip-off at Shirley Egner Court at Berg Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
