STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team (4-1) stormed out to a big lead in an 83-51 win over North Central (0-4). The Pointers led 45-18 at halftime when Shirley Egner Court at Berg Gym was officially dedicated in honor of the program and conference winningest coach.
Jamie Pfeifer (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells) led the Pointers in scoring with 14 points.
Kelly McIntyre (Waukesha, Wis./North) was also in double figures with 13. Twelve different Pointers tallied points in the win.
Following a three-pointer by the visitors to begin the game, UWSP reeled off a 10-0 run with
Josie Nies (Platteville, Wis./Platteville) starting the run and Pfeifer posting six early points. McIntyre buried a late three and UWSP's lead after one stood at 20-12.
Olivia Hoerl (Chilton, Wis./Chilton) drilled a three to open the second and scored five early as UWSP seized control of the game with an 11-0 run.
Emily Mortenson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) nailed a three late and the Pointers held a massive halftime lead ahead of court dedication ceremony.
Alexa Thomson (De Pere, Wis./West) opened the third quarter with a three and Hoerl buried another from behind the arc.
Katelyn Slowik (Elcho, Wis./Elcho) scored late in the third as UWSP took a 65-36 lead to the fourth.
Nies scored four points early in the fourth.
Allie Spaltholz (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) and
Megan Gallagher (Byron, Minn./Byron) each hit a pair of free throws late.
The Pointers continue the homestand on Tuesday (Nov. 22) with a 4:00 p.m. game against Lakeland. All UWSP faculty and staff can get into the game free.
