STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Senior
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) scored his first goal of the season, and it was the game-winner, as the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (3-1-3, 1-0-0) won the conference opener over UW-Stout (5-2-0, 0-1-0) by a 3-2 final on Friday.
The Blue Devils found the back of the net first at the 4:08 mark in the opening period to put UWSP in an early hole.
Later in the period,
David Hill (Glen Mills, Pa./) scored his second of the season off an assist from
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich./) to tie the game at 1-1 after one.
Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) gave the Pointers a 2-1 lead at 7:42 of the second period.
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) forced a turnover at the Stout blue line and found Anderson streaking into the zone for the go-ahead goal.
The lead lasted until the 16:36 mark of the second when the Blue Devils tied the game at 2-2 where it stood heading to the third.
At 8:01 of the third period, Theis ripped the game-winner into the net.
Brady Smith (Bloomington, Ill./) went for a wrap-around and the puck found a wide-open Theis on the back post for the goal.
Ryan Wagner (Indianapolis, Ind./) made 28 saves for the Pointers to earn the win. Stout goaltender Dawson Green made 33 saves.
The Pointers head to Northland for the first road conference game on Saturday (Nov. 19). Puck drop in Ashland is slated for 7:00 p.m.
