NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (2-1-3) got goals from five different players in a 5-5 tie at St. Olaf (3-1-1) on Saturday.
Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn./) scored his first career goal at 18:42 of the first period to pull UWSP even at 1-1.
Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich./) and
Jake Theis (Chanhassen, Minn./) had assists on the goal.
Jordan Roo (Champlin, Minn./) found the back of the net in his season debut at 7:19 of the second period as UWSP again tied the game, this time at 2-2.
Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) and Ayd had helpers.
With just 7.8 second left in the second period,
Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) put the Pointers ahead, 3-2.
Dawson Sciarrino (Greensburg, Pa./) and
Tyler German (Canton, Mich./) assisted on the go-ahead goal.
Andrew Poulias (Whitby, Ont./) doubled the UWSP lead at 7:53 of the third.
Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn./) and
Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn./) notched assists on the play.
After the Oles got a goal, Finstrom put the Pointers back in front by two at 16:25 of the third. Theis and Sciarrino each got their second assists of the night on the play.
St. Olaf pulled the goalie with just over three minute remaining and it paid off. The Oles scored at 18:02 and again at 19:37 to pull even at 5-5.
UWSP out-shot the Oles, 6-3, in overtime, but neither team could find a game-winner.
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) made 19 saves in net for UWSP. St. Olaf goaltender Lukas Haugen had 28 saves.
The Pointers return home to open league play against UW-Stout on Friday (Nov. 18). Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
