Pointers Offense Explodes in Road Win at Saint Mary’s

WINONA, Minn. – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team (2-1-2) surpassed its season total in goals entering the game with an 8-1 thrashing of Saint Mary's (1-3-1) in matinee action on Friday.  Five different Pointers had multi-point games.
 
Following a scoreless first period, Cody Moline (North Branch, Minn./) scored his first of the game to put UWSP in front at 2:52 of the second period. Fletcher Anderson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Sir William Churchill) and Sam Ayd (Grant, Minn./) had assists on the play.
 
Less than two minutes later, Noah Finstrom (New Baltimore, Mich./) doubled to lead off assists from Harrison Stewart (Rockford, Ill./) and Brett Humberstone (Kingston, Ont./).
 
The lead grew to 3-0 at 11:03 of the second as Conor Witherspoon (Metamora, Mich./) scored off Anderson's second assist of the period. SMU scored at 15:34 of the second, but UWSP held a two-goal lead heading to the third.
 
Anderson scored just 1:59 into the third period, the first of five tallies for the Pointers in the period. Mick Heneghan (Niles, Ill./) had an assist on the goal.
 
Anderson recorded his third assist of the game on Moline's second of the night at 4:10 of the third. Witherspoon added an assist as well. Just 26 seconds later, Tyler German (Canton, Mich./) pushed the lead to 6-1, Humberstone added his second assist of the night and Isaac Moberg (St. Paul, Minn./) also had an assist.
 
Heneghan picked up his second point of the game with a power-play goal at 9:40 of the third. Witherspoon and Moline had assists.
 
Wilson Northey (North Vancouver, B.C./) completed the scoring at 12:19. Jordan Fader (Rice Lake, Wis./) and Nicholas Aromatario (Woodbridge, Ont./) added helpers on the play.
 
Alex Proctor (Allen, Texas) earned his first career win with 21 saves, seven in each period. SMU goaltender Matt Sankner made 39 saves.
 
The Pointers remain in Minnesota for a 7:00 p.m. game at St. Olaf on Saturday (Nov. 12).
