WAUKESKA, Wis. – The No. 16 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (17-4) picked up a pair of wins over North Park (16-6) and host Carroll (9-12) at Saturday's Carroll Tri.
Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led UWSP in kills in both matches with 14 and 15, respectively, on the day.
Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) had 22 digs in both matches to lead UWSP.
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) led all players in assists with 25 and 21 on the day.
UWSP's offense broke out to hit .282 against Carroll, the second-best on the season. On the day, UWSP racked up 21 aces.
UWSP 3, North Park 0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-21)
Kopp had three kills as UWSP took an 11-8 lead. After NPU used a 4-0 run to gain a slight advantage, it was
Megan Schroder (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) combing for two blocks and a kill apiece in a 7-0 run as UWSP went ahead 21-15. Another kill by Kopp gave UWSP set point and Michalske and
Sophia Lee (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) combined for a set-clinching block.
UWSP dug out of a 5-1 hole with an 8-0 burst, including a pair of aces by Michalske, for a 9-5 lead. The Pointers seized control and ended the set on a 12-2 run.
The teams battled back-and-forth to an 18-18 tie late. Mosinski had two kills and a block in a 5-1 run. She added another for match point and
Katie Larson (Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central) served up an ace to end it.
UWSP 3, Carroll 1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-13)
Grace Regnier (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Schroder had three kills as UWSP erased a 16-14 deficit in the middle of the set.
Kelsie Belfiori (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) and Larson each had an ace late and Schroder ended the set with a kill.
Kopp had three kills and an ace as UWSP led 19-16. Four-straight UWSP points on kills by
Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) gave the Pointers a 23-22 lead. The Pioneers rattled off three-straight points to even the match at a set apiece.
Schroder sparked a 7-0 run with a kill and Mosinski added two kills and block in the burst for a 17-11 lead. Meyer and Mosinski had two kills each and Kopp secured the set victory with another kill.
Belfiori started the fourth set with an ace igniting an 11-2 start for UWSP.
Taylor Birr (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) had two blocks down the stretch and for the second time on the day, Larson ended the match with an ace.
The Pointers return home to face league foe UW-Eau Claire on Friday (Oct. 14). The 7:00 p.m. match will be a "Black Out" at Berg Gym.
