Pointers Throw Block Party in Berg to Take Down UWEC in Four

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The No. 15 UW-Stevens Point volleyball team (18-4, 3-2) posted a season-high 12 team blocks and knocked off No. 13 UW-Eau Claire (17-5, 4-1) in four sets on Friday night.
 
Sydney Mosinski (Nevada, Iowa/Nevada) had a career-high eight blocks and recorded 12 kills. Ashley Kopp (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) added five blocks and registered a double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 16 digs.
 
Melanie Meyer (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) was also in double figures with 12 kills. She had three blocks. Emma Peterson (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) tied Kopp for the team lead with 16 digs.
 
Grace Michalske (Wausau, Wis./West) and Taylor Birr (Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski) were both in double digits in assists with 28 and 16, respectively. Olivia Paukner (Prairie Du Sac, Wis./Sauk Prairie) had four blocks for UWSP. Megan Schroder (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) had three blocks and served up two of UWSP's four aces.
 
Grace Regnier (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) had consecutive kills to spark a 5-1 run as UWSP got within 10-9 in the first set. Kopp had two kills and a block in a 5-0 burst as UWSP took a brief 15-14 lead. Mosinski had two late kills as UWSP ended the first set on a 6-0 run to win 25-21.
 
Kopp had three kills as the team jockeyed for the lead early in the second set. Paukner had two kills down the stretch, but UWEC pulled away for a 25-17 set two win.
 
Kopp again powered down three early kills to propel UWSP to a 9-5 advantage. Mosinski had a kill and a block in a 5-0 run as the lead grew to 14-8. Meyer and Mosinski had a block and a kill each as UWSP took the third set, 25-16, with a 5-0 burst at the end.
 
The Pointers had four blocks by the midpoint of the fourth set, but only held a 15-14 edge. Meyer and Kopp had six kills in consecutive UWSP points for a 22-20 lead. UWEC spoiled UWSP first match point for a 24-24 tie. Kopp and Meyer drilled consecutive saves as the Pointers took the match with a 26-24 fourth set win.
 
UWSP heads to Madison on Saturday (Oct. 15) for a pair of matches at the Edgewood Tri. The Pointers face Aurora at 2:00 p.m. before facing host Edgewood at 4:00 p.m.
